Monday Motivation: Steps

Friends

What do you do for exercise? Walking is my cardio workout of choice. Better still, I like to walk outside and experience the beauty of nature as I trot down the road.

Job 34:21 – NIV

For me, a good morning walk is a beautiful way to start the day. That’s why I love our 2.8 mile walking loop around our neighborhood. In the early morning quiet, my husband Eric and I step out along the silent street that curves behind our house. We wind around the semi-circular road until we reach the road that leads toward the river. From the shadowy quiet of piney woods, the scent of honeysuckle tickles my nose, and the cheery birdsong delights my ears. Golden rays of sunlight stream through the tree line and shimmer across the open meadow. Eric and I walk in silence as we trot up and down the steep hills, both of us relishing the sights and sounds that greet us along the way.

One footfall, then another. Up the hill, breathing hard, down again, sweet relief. Step by step, we make our way. Step by step, we journey back toward our home.

My husband and I know our way around this well worn walking loop, but the walk through this life is not so clear cut. Obstacles block our path. The road is rocky, even treacherous at times. Walking the road of life without divine guidance, without a compass to mark the right direction, well, it’s a tough way to go. That’s why we need God to guide our steps. That’s why we need a Savior that can light the way home.

Guide My Steps

Guide my steps, Lord,

Guide my steps,

Show me Your path,

That I may follow You.

Hold my hand, Lord,

Hold my hand,

Teach me Your ways,

That I might serve You well.

Calm my fears, Lord,

Calm my fears,

Lead me through the darkness,

That I may know Your light.

Lead me on, Lord,

Lead me on,

Grant me strength for the journey,

That I might persevere.

Show me the way, Lord,

Show me the way,

Bless me with the faith I need,

That I might always trust in You.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

Psalm 32:8 – NIV

PRAYER

O Lord God, guide our steps on this journey of life. It is so easy for us to lose our way. We wear out quickly on our own strength. The problems we face leave us uncertain and afraid. Lord, be our guide. Grant us strength to persevere when the going gets tough. May we follow You all the days of our lives, and let us dwell in the house of The Lord forever.

In the Powerful Name of Jesus, we pray,

Amen

Blessings,

Anita
