God replied to Moses, “ I am who i am. Say this to the people of Israel: I am has sent me to you.”
Exodus 3:14 – NLT
A name is a precious thing. Your name is intricately woven into the very fabric of your being. Your name is part of your definition. When people think of you, they think of your name. It is part of each thought they have about you.
You could go so far as to say that your name is sacred. We desire a good reputation and we say “we are defending our good name.: Our name precedes us into new situations. When our name is well thought of, it opens doors for us.
So if a name is so important, isn’t it interesting that when asked by Moses, God declared His Name to be a simple two word phrase. The Creator of the Universe chose two simple words to define himself. He replied only, “I AM.” Nothing else was necessary. “I AM” said it all.
Just ponder His meaning for a moment. With those two words, He was saying, “I AM the first and the last, the beginning and the end the Alpha and the Omega. I AM above all things, in all things, over all things. I AM Your Father, Your Creator, Your Lord. I AM God alone. I AM everything. I AM enough.”
Those two simple words declared His power and His might, His omnipotence and His omnipresence, His authority and devotion. Nothing else was necessary. Those two words said it all.
What’s more? Take a look at the rest of Exodus chapter 3 and you will see that The Almighty God was speaking directly to His people through Moses. He was telling them that He heard their cries for help, that He would deliver them, that He would see them through their oncoming storm, that He would be with them through it all. The Great I AM was choosing to come and lead them through all that lay ahead.
Friends, hear this good news. The Great I AM still hears our cries for help. He knows our names. He knows everything about us, our personalities, our circumstances, our strengths, our failures. He sees our struggles, our suffering, our wounds. He hurts with us and is continually working for us. He has a good plan for each of us even when we cannot see it fully. He loves us with an unfailing love. His grace is sufficient for us. He is enough.
Your name is precious for it is known fully by The Great I AM. No matter where you find yourself today, The Great I AM remains with you. He will see you through whatever lies ahead. He knows you by name.
