How’s the weather where you are? In my part of North Carolina, the name of the game this summer is rain. Lots of it! Still, rain or not, I continue to greet the morning in my glider on the front porch, taking the time to rock and reflect. I love listening to the pitter-patter of the raindrops on the roof. I welcome the wind when it stirs the air and cools things off a bit. While I must admit that I am ready for some sunshine, I did find the rain served as a good reminder of God’s limitless love for us..

He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills.
Psalm 147:8 – NIV
I think my love of front porch sitting is genetic. I inherited it from my paternal grandfather. If Grand was not working or watching TV, you would find him on either the front or back porch. He could sit for hours staring out at the fields, watching the clouds float by, listening to the rustle of leaves stirring on the gentle breeze. I, too, can sit on the front porch for hours, just rocking, looking, and listening.
Grand loved to watch it rain. A farmer by trade, he knew the value of a well-timed rain. He would lean back in his chair, cane in hand, tapping the cement floor as if to keep time with the pounding of the rain drops on the porch roof.
In the past month, I have had plenty of opportunities to watch it rain. Rocking in my glider on the front porch, I have been listening to the steady beat of the rain, observing the clouds as they change from light gray to dark. I have noticed that the birds will chirp happily in the misting rain, but they grow quiet when the rain turns steady. The air seems to cool a bit as the rain moves in, sending a little breeze to flow over the porch.
The rain has poured forth from the heavens, steady, unrelenting, as if designed to quench an insatiable thirst. The rain reminds me of God’s unrelenting love for us. His love flows down from heaven, washing over us, soothing our parched souls. His love rains down, delivering streams of Living Water, that we may thirst no more. Oh, how we need that kind of water. Yes, how we need that kind of love.
It is a love undeserved, a love unconditional, a love unimaginable. In our humanness, we cannot fathom the breadth of that love. We love our spouses and children with a deep, abiding love. Yet, even the depth of that kind of love pales in comparison to the vastness of God’s love for us. For it is a love that sees us clearly, knowing the impurity and selfishness of our thoughts, conscious of our faults and failures. Fully aware of all our iniquity, God chooses to love us anyway. It is a love beyond comprehension, a love beyond comparison.
Let the rain drops remind us of God’s unceasing love for us. Let His love wash over us, refreshing, renewing, restoring our souls. Let His love rain down on us, washing away the fear, the hurt, the shame. May we live our lives, palms open, ready to receive His marvelous love, buoyed by the certainty of His amazing grace.
Open the floodgates of heaven, and let His love pour forth. Oh yes, Lord, let it rain!

PRAYER
O Father, let Your love rain down. Let it wash over us. Let it lift our hearts, restore our souls. May our eyes search the heavens, remembering Your faithfulness, giving thanks for Your blessings. May the rain of Your love provide the Living Water that will see us through the storms of this life.
In the Loving Name of Jesus, we pray,
Amen
Blessings,
Anita
